Sabong: A Filipino Tradition With Centuries of History
Ask any Filipino to name something that cuts across regions, dialects, and social classes, and sabong will almost always come up. Cockfighting in the Philippines is not just a pastime – it is a cultural institution. It has been documented as far back as the pre-colonial era, and Spanish-era accounts from as early as the 1500s describe Filipinos gathering around the pit with as much intensity as any modern arena crowd.
Deep Roots in Filipino Culture
Cockfighting was already a widespread practice across the archipelago long before Spanish contact. It served social, ceremonial, and economic roles in communities from Luzon to Mindanao.
Galleras Formalised Across the Country
The Spanish established licensed galleras (cockfighting arenas) and treated sabong as both a cultural fixture and a source of colonial tax revenue. The legal framework around the sport took shape during this period.
National Pastime Status Cemented
Sabong became firmly established as a national sporting and leisure tradition. Major derby events began drawing crowds from across provinces, with serious money changing hands on the results.

How Online Sabong Works at 777pubvip

- Log in to your 777pubvip account and navigate to the Sabong section.
- A live match stream is displayed, typically a few minutes before fight time. You can see the roosters being presented and the initial odds.
- The betting window opens. You choose your side – Meron (the favoured rooster), Wala (the underdog), or occasionally a Draw bet depending on the operator.
- Enter your bet amount in Philippine pesos and confirm before the window closes.
- Watch the fight live via the HD stream. Matches typically last a few minutes.
- Once the result is declared, your winnings are credited directly to your 777pubvip wallet within seconds.
Multiple fights run back to back throughout the day and into the night. On weekends and during major derby events, the volume picks up considerably, which means more opportunities to bet and more action on screen.
Understanding Meron, Wala, and How Sabong Odds Work
For anyone new to sabong betting, the terminology is worth knowing before you place your first bet at 777pubvip. The language of sabong odds is distinct from other sports wagering and has its own logic.
Meron – The Favourite
Meron means "there is" in Filipino, and in sabong context it refers to the favoured rooster in the match – the one the bookmaker expects to win. Betting on Meron generally gives you a return slightly less than your stake because you are backing the odds-on side. If Meron wins and you bet ₱1,000, you might receive ₱900 in winnings (exact odds vary match to match).
Wala – The Underdog
Wala means "none" or "underdog" in this context. Betting on Wala gives you higher returns because you are backing the side less likely to win. A ₱1,000 bet on Wala that comes through might return ₱1,100 or more. The gap between Meron and Wala odds reflects how evenly matched the two roosters are assessed to be.
BHB – The Odds Format
Sabong odds at 777pubvip are typically displayed in the traditional BHB (Buwis Hanggang Bawat) format or as a decimal ratio. For example, odds of 8-10 Meron means for every ₱10 you bet on Meron, you receive ₱8 in winnings if you win. Understanding these ratios helps you calculate expected returns before confirming your bet.
Draw (Empate)
Some matches end in a draw when neither rooster is declared the winner within the fight rules. Depending on the operator streaming through 777pubvip, draw outcomes may result in a push (stakes returned), a loss, or a specific draw-bet payout. Always check the match rules displayed on screen before betting.
Meron
The favoured rooster in the match. Lower risk, lower payout ratio. Good for consistent, measured betting sessions.
Lower OddsWala
The underdog rooster. Higher risk, higher potential return. When an upset lands, the payout is noticeably better.
Higher OddsDraw (Empate)
Available on selected matches. Stakes are typically returned or handled per operator rules when a fight ends undecided.

Sabong Betting Tips for First-Timers at 777pubvip
If you are watching sabong for the first time online at 777pubvip, here are a few practical things worth knowing before you start placing bets. These are not magic formulas – sabong outcomes are never guaranteed – but they are habits that experienced bettors tend to follow.
Watch Before You Bet
If you are new to sabong betting, spend your first session just watching a few matches at 777pubvip without placing any money down. Get a feel for how the fights run, how long they last, and how the odds shift between fights.
Understand the Odds Before Confirming
The Meron/Wala odds are displayed clearly before each fight at 777pubvip. Take a moment to read them. A wide gap between Meron and Wala odds means the bookmaker sees a significant difference in the roosters' expected performance.
Set a Per-Fight Limit, Not Just a Session Limit
It is easy to get caught up in the momentum of back-to-back fights. Deciding your maximum bet per fight before you start – say ₱200 or ₱500 – keeps things in check over a long session of multiple matches.
Check Breeder and Bloodline Information When Available
Some 777pubvip streams display pre-fight information including the bloodline, weight, and fight record of each rooster. Experienced sabong bettors pay close attention to these details when assessing a match.
Never Chase a Loss
This applies to every form of betting, but sabong moves particularly fast. One bad fight should not be a trigger for a bigger reckless bet on the next one. Stick to your plan and treat each fight as independent.
